This week is my 10 year anniversary of getting over a pretty major health issue. July 29 2005 I passed out in my apartment. My girlfriend called an ambulance and I was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
At first we thought I was suffering from heat stroke, I was actually bleeding internally from scare tissue in my esophagus. While I was being tended to I inhaled vomit into my lungs. I was diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, given less than 50 percent chance of survival, my parents called in a priest to perform last rites. Doctors removed a section of my esophagus and I ended up in a drug induced coma for 7 weeks.
That was followed by a month in a nursing home to get my muscles moving again and get me weaned off a myriad of medications (which included morphine and methadone)
Needless to say the summer of 2005 really sucked.
I'm forever grateful to my family and friends for helping me get though that difficult time. Thanks to Deanna Joy Lyons who literally saved my life..
